I've already written Murray, Cantwell, and my Representative to join Jayapal and the others. No need to dignify this farce of an administration any further.

@2 Won't be noticed? THE ONLY THING TRUMP CARES ABOUT HIS HOW BIG THE CROWD IS AND HOW MUCH THEY ARE KISSING HIS ASS. If every single Democratic boycotts the dotard's "speech" IT IS THE ONE THING HE WILL NOTICE AND HE WILL TWEET ABOUT IT FOR DAYS. Seriously, have you not been paying attention to his dumb ass for the past year?

@4: It's not like this is still The Apprentice where higher ratings benefit him financially. He'll boast about viewership size regardless. Considering the potential drama, no sense in depriving yourself - I suggest pairing it with stiff cocktails.

@4 xina: Nails it for the win. You GO, girl!! ITMFA.

Nothing shows strength and solidarity like hiding at home while the bullies rule the playground.

Boycotting the SOTU just means the people who are left will all be standing and applauding while the freak spews his shit.

At least if they showed up the cameras would have to pan out to a huge number of attendees who don't applaud and just maybe yell "Liar" a few times.

The bullshit trolls are out in force I see. Anything the slog trolls say do the opposite. This what I call the George Costanza effect. So clearly the Boycott is the correct course of action.

Because if the boycotters showed up and kept their seats or shouted - you know, behaved like republican man-babies - then theyā€™d troll and whine and have pants shitting rages about that.

So clearly the Boycott is the way to go.

I kind of agree with the RW assholes here. The Dems should be there.

Ideally, they'd decline to applaud, turn their backs when he enters, and remain standing that way the entire time.

Absent that, I'll take silence, boos, hissing, and catcalls. Maybe a thrown shoe here and there.

@11

Didn't the Democrats all boycott the Clinton impeachment vote? I remember that they all gathered outside at some point, either during or after the vote. They need to reject the legitimacy of this man as president.
13
@12: That never happened. Think about what it would mean for a political party to "boycott" a major vote.

They can only grandstand about "boycotting" a speech, because it doesn't actually matter.

No big loss. She kind of embarrassed herself by not being prepared with challenging the election to which Joe Biden famously said ā€œIts overā€. POTUS will just fill the seat with a first responder, military hero, veteran, or other ā€œface of the middle classā€ that that the liberal agenda loves to say it helps but really doesnā€™t. It just means more people standing less people sitting during the applause as the democratic voice shrinks away. I think itā€™s a great idea that she stay home in protest. Itā€™s not like going to help Washington Stateā€™s or the progressive liberal reputation at all. As a matter of fact it will make them look kind of petty, childish and unable to deal with and face opposing views head-on.
15
@14: again, can the president fill a seat on the floor of the congress? no doubt they're lining up applause lines for the gallery, but the seats on the floors are for congresspeople.
16
The House could be empty, and Trump would still tell you it was the biggest crowd ever to hear a SOTU address.

The Dems could turn up for it and shout "Liar!" after every other passage. Fox'n'Friends, with their conveniently short memories, would go apeshit at this gross lack of respect for the President.

@15. Iā€™m sure POTUS will allow exceptions where public opinion overrides liberal pettiness. One thing democrats havenā€™t grappled with is that POTUS doesnā€™t follow the norm-especially where liberals willingly and consistently step into his political traps using their own identity politics against them.
